Modena is one of Italy's best-kept secrets — a UNESCO city of art, food, and engines. Here's everything you need to see, taste, and experience during your stay.

Modena Cathedral UNESCO World Heritage Italy

1. 🏛️ Visit the UNESCO Modena Cathedral

The Modena Cathedral (Duomo di Modena) is a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Built in the 12th century, it dominates the iconic Piazza Grande and is just a 5-minute walk from Martin's Home. Don't miss the medieval bas-reliefs on the façade and the stunning Torre Ghirlandina bell tower.

🕐 Opening hours: Mon–Sat 7:00–19:30, Sun 7:00–13:00 & 14:30–19:30 | 🎟️ Entry: Free

2. 🏎️ Ferrari Museum in Maranello

Just 18km from Modena, the Enzo Ferrari Museum and the Ferrari Museum in Maranello are unmissable for any Motor Valley visitor. See legendary race cars, Formula 1 champions and the history of the Prancing Horse. Combine both museums for the full Ferrari experience.

🕐 Opening hours: Daily 9:00–19:00 | 🎟️ Entry: from €17 | 🚗 Distance: 15 min drive from Martin's Home

3. 🍝 Eat Like a Local at Mercato Albinelli

The Mercato Albinelli is Modena's historic covered market, just 3 minutes walk from the apartment. A foodie paradise where locals have shopped for over 100 years. Try fresh tortellini, tigelle, local cheeses, Lambrusco wine and of course the world-famous Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena DOP.

🕐 Opening hours: Mon–Sat 6:30–14:00, Fri also 17:00–19:30 | 🎟️ Entry: Free

4. 🍶 Discover Traditional Balsamic Vinegar

Modena is the birthplace of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar DOP — one of the world's most prized condiments, aged for a minimum of 12 years in wooden barrels. Visit a local acetaia (vinegar cellar) for a tasting tour. We recommend Acetaia Giusti (world's oldest balsamic producer, since 1605) or Acetaia San Giacomo.

📍 Distance: 10 min drive from Martin's Home | 💡 Tip: Book a tasting in advance

5. 🎭 Explore Modena's Historic Center

Modena's historic center is compact and perfect for walking. Stroll through the elegant Portici (arcaded streets), visit the Palazzo Ducale (now the Italian Military Academy), explore the Musei del Duomo and enjoy aperitivo at one of the many bars in Piazza Grande. The whole center is easily explored on foot from Martin's Home.

6. 🏁 Motor Valley: Lamborghini, Maserati & Pagani

Modena is the heart of Italy's Motor Valley — the birthplace of the world's most iconic supercars. Within 30 minutes from the apartment you can visit:

  • Lamborghini Museum — Sant'Agata Bolognese (25 min)
